Former teacher advices pupils on career in South Shields
November 20 2009
Phil Grice, head at Ashley Primary School in South Shields for 25 years, is helping pupils identify which career path they should take.
Mr Grice has become the project officer for Blue Venture South Tyneside Education Business Partnership and he is showing students how the skills they are acquiring now will be pivotal in their future, the Shields Gazette reports.
"Blue Venture works right across the board to raise children's awareness of the world of work," Mr Grice said. "We are not preparing them necessarily for work, but we are giving them the skills to enable them to be successful in work."
He said, however, that he wasn't discussing specific careers with the pupils, but that the project was allowing them to meet people who have been successful in their careers.
The UK government has launched a programme to allow children between the ages of seven to and 11 to experience university life and learn first hand about the working world.
