Scotland plans to open up teaching job opportunities
November 26 2009
Newly qualified teachers looking for a job will have access to new positions under new plans by the Scottish government.
Education secretary Fiona Hyslop said councils will be permitted to borrow up to £10 million that would allow up to 500 older teachers to retire early over the next two years.
"I am determined to make sure this government does everything it can to support our teachers and help as many new teachers as possible into jobs.
"This package of measures is designed to do exactly that," Ms Hyslop was quoted as saying by the BBC.
She added that by older teachers seeking early retirement, a new generation of qualified tutors will be able to get a job in the coming financial year.
