'North-east teachers amongst the UK's elite'

Teachers from more than 20 north-east schools have been named among the country's elite, a newspaper reports.

Across Tyneside and Wearside, 21 schools, as well as 55 childcare providers, were given an "outstanding" grade by Ofsted, the government's education and childcare watchdog.

Headteacher David Pearmain from Kenton School, in Drayton Road, Newcastle, told Journal Live: "Achievement has climbed steadily and consistently over the last ten years, to the point where Kenton's 'added value' at GCSE has recently been the best of any school in Tyne and Wear and among the best nationally."

In other related news, teachers at an Exeter secondary school were probably in celebratory mood after winning a community award, according to a newspaper report.

St Peter's School won the Excellence in Exeter Community Award, which looks at rewarding and recognising the contribution the winning school or college has made to its local community, for its project Learning for Sustainability.
