Hard-working Croydon teacher receives MBE

A teacher in Croydon may prove inspirational for other looking to teach in the UK after being awarded an MBE.

John Rowlands, an economics tutor, was nominated by his students for a Queen's New Year Honour, the Croydon Guardian reports.

One of the teacher's pupils, Harshil Trivedi, said that Mr Rowlands utilises a variety of techniques to capture the imagination of his students.

"He is a teacher that always sees the best in his students and tries to nurture that to always get the best out of them," the pupil added.

Students teamed up to send off the form as a special marker for their teacher's forthcoming retirement.

Mr Rowlands was one of three teachers to be included on this year's New Year Honours List.

Other school staff including a classroom assistant, school crossing warden and educational catering supervisor have also received accolades from the Queen.
