Warwickshire backs school improvement plan
January 18 2010
Warwickshire officials have backed an "exciting" government initiative to replace, rebuild or renovate every school in the country, according to a local news report.
Council leader Alan Farnell said that the Building Schools For The Future programme, which will represent a £500 million investment in the region alone, could transform schools and communities in Warwickshire.
"We agreed at cabinet for officers to submit a bid of readiness as soon as possible to the government that should, if we are successful, release millions of pounds to invest in our children," he was quoted as saying to the Coventry Telegraph.
In other news, funds that head teachers across the country hold back from spending on current students have dropped for the first time in six years, a news report has said.
However, more than 7,000 schools, just under a third, still have surplus balances that are deemed to be excessive - totalling £495 million, according to the BBC.
