Ofsted commends 'outstanding' Wiveliscombe school

Staff and pupils at Kingsmead Community school in Wiveliscombe are celebrating an "outstanding" Ofsted inspection, a local news report has said.

Ofsted praised the school for helping students to look beyond their rural community and understand contrasting environments in the UK and abroad, This is The West Country has reported.

Kingsmead's top grade means that the school is the first in the Somerset area to receive this honour under the more rigorous inspection system that was introduced last September.

"The students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding. The young people are taught to think independently and reflect on their learning," the report said.

In other news, education watchdog Ofsted has given the thumbs up to a Bristol school for making "satisfactory" progress, a local news report has said.

Compass Point: South Street School and Children's Centre was praised for developing a curriculum that was appropriate for all but was of particular interest to boys, according to the Evening Post.
