Major revamp for Bolton schools
February 05 2010
Schools in Bolton are poised for a major makeover under an £83 million rebuild and refurbishment scheme, according to a local news report.
The first seven schools that will benefit from the Building Schools for the Future(BSF) programme are Smithills, Ladybridge, Firwood in Tonge Moor, Westhoughton, Bolton Muslim Girls, Little Lever and Sharples School.
"The plans for the phase one schools look really exciting. It brings home the reality of just how much the BSF programme will do for the borough's schools, young people and the community," Cllr Ebrahim Adia, executive member for children's services at Bolton Council, was quoted as saying in The Bolton News.
In other news, the revamp of one of Berkshire's oldest schools is about to hit an important milestone with a topping out ceremony on Friday.
Newbury-based St Bartholomew's School, which in 2006 received a government grant of £32 million, moves closer to combine its current two buildings into one purpose-built site, the BBC has reported.
