New teaching of media studies GCSE

The teaching of media studies GCSE under the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA exams board (OCR) is set to change following the introduction of adjustments to the course.
From September 2009, teachers will be schooling students about how to analyse issues arising in action adventure films including themes within the genre, mise en scene and soundtrack and editing.
And with the curriculum planned two years in advance, those studying the course in 2010 could be exploring some of this year's blocbusters, such as the soon to be released Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
This is a "great example of the action adventure genre", said OCR's Parool Patel.
"It's a particularly useful genre to study at GCSE level as students can familiarise themselves with genre conventions, the use and creation of dramatic effects and representation of characters and themes," added the head of GCSE Project.
All of OCR's 43 GCSE courses have been revised and revamped in recent months.
