Headteachers 'to benefit' from new government plans

New plans to make life easier for headteachers were unveiled over the weekend by children and families minister Beverley Hughes

The package of measures introduced feature proposals to reduce pressure on schools and enable heads to share their responsibilities with other professionals.

Ms Hughes told the annual conference of the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT): "We want to build support for children and families, removing the barriers to their learning and help head teachers do their jobs."

New investment to cater for the scheme will include £13 million to support vulnerable families, as part of the government's Children's Plan, which envisions making the UK "the best place in the world to grow up".

Teachers will be given support with new guidance about how to manage pupils who have behavioural, educational and social difficulties.

Earlier this month, president of NAHT Clarissa Williams suggested that payment should be given to parents from deprived backgrounds to encourage them to read to their children.ADNFCR-1566-ID-18580564-ADNFCR
