Council offers schoolchildren reward for using bins
July 17 2009
Braintree council has devised a scheme whereby children are rewarded for using litter bins.
As part of the initiative, schoolchildren near Ramsey College in Essex could receive prizes for dropping off their waste properly.
By employing undercover rubbish spotters who will give out the prizes the council hopes to reduce the amount of litter left on the streets.
"This campaign not only raises awareness about littering but actively encourages children to put their litter in a bin," explains councillor Roger Waters.
Head teacher Mike Murray says the initiative helps reward children who are keen to improve the litter situation.
New to teaching in England, educators will get involved in initiatives that bring together schools, councils and businesses.
This scheme is sponsored by Sainsbury's and local movie house Cineworld.
