Funding announced for training nursery teachers in Scotland

The Scottish government has announced a major funding injection for a pilot project to boost early years teaching standards in Scotland.

Around £210,000 will be invested to train specialist teachers at Aberdeen and Stirling Universities in an effort to improve nursery standards in the country.

At a recent Holyrood conference, early years minister Adam Ingram said: "It's vital that we ensure pre-school children are stimulated and encouraged by learning that is relevant to them and teachers are at the heart of that drive."

Mr Ingram pointed out that that government has made a commitment to "ensure every pre-school child has access to a teacher".

"By boosting the number of teachers with early years expertise we will promote excellence in this area and help children get off on the right track from the very beginning," he added.

Meanwhile, a new team of top-flight students has been established to help boost teaching standards in some of Sheffield's most troubled schools, reports the Sheffield Telegraph.
