Plymouth teachers nominated for major awards
May 19 2009
A group of nine teachers working in the Plymouth area have been nominated for the regional heats of the 2009 National Teaching Awards.
The respected teachers have been shortlisted alongside others from the south-west region for the annual competition, reports the Plymouth Herald.
Colleagues, pupils and parents will be on hand to support the teachers while the results are announced at a ceremony on June 11th at Dartington Hall, Totnes.
Successful teachers will be given a Plato award for promoting excellence in education in the south-west.
Caroline Evans, awards chief executive, told the newspaper that the ceremony offers the "opportunity to witness the skill, devotion, passion and professionalism that teachers bring to their work".
She explained that the major influence that these "outstanding individuals" have on children and their families "cannot be underestimated".
"Society needs to recognise their impact and thank them wholeheartedly for the important contribution that they make," she added.
Meanwhile, head teachers Elaine Watson and Debra Knowles have been appointed to the position of National Leader of Education by the National College for School Leadership, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner
