Schools could choose virtual learning during flu attack
July 24 2009
Should the swine flu virus force schools to close they could choose to set up virtual learning.
As well as lengthening the summer holidays people teaching in the UK could decide to follow advice from the government's technology advisors, Becta, and prepare virtual lessons.
The BBC has reported that Becta confirmed plans are in place and that its staff have been in talks with the government.
Educators and officials are keen for schools not to shut, but if they did, the channel says teaching could be facilitated through the internet and by using email.
Martin Ward, deputy general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders told BBC News that closures would not be in the interest of pupils or those people teaching in the UK.
Virtual and e-learning is already established in industry and on higher education courses.
The NHS has created online resources that help patients manage their own treatment.
Geraldine Granath, the head of people development and teaching for NHS South of Tyne and Wear, told trainingpressreleases.com its service needed to be "humorous and about real patient situations and real people".
