Secondary teachers to be provided with new guidance
March 13 2009
Secondary school teachers will soon be receiving new guidance to help them implement the new curriculum.
Launched in September 2008, this featured cross-curriculum dimensions such as healthy lifestyles, community participation and enterprise, and cultural diversity.
These have been chosen to help provide links for learning across a range of subjects.
And the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority has published new guidance for teaching staff, which is being launched at the National Conference for Dimensions.
"Our planning guides will help teachers put the dimensions at the heart of lessons and ensure that learners understand the challenges that face the world today," stated director of curriculum at QCA Mick Waters.
The first new guide focuses on the global dimension and sustainable development section of the curriculum, with Sustainable Development in Action designed to help teachers build this subject into the learning experience of their pupils.
A more general guide, looking at incorporating all seven cross-curriculum dimensions, has also been produced by the body.
Upon the launch of the new secondary curriculum last year, Mr Waters stated that it was a "significant milestone" for education in England.
