Brave pupil determined to honour teacher
February 25 2009
A teacher has been nominated for an award for persuading doctors to recognise there was a problem with her pupil's health.
Louisa Brazier, who worked at Ysgol Gwaenynog in Denbigh, noticed that one of her pupils was displaying unusual behaviour.
And according to The Daily Post, her concern about this led her to write a letter to doctors at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Following examinations, it emerged that Luke's behaviour - which included an inability to walk in a straight line - was being caused by the presence of a cyst the size of an apple pressing on his optic nerves.
The brave pupil now faces possibly losing sight in one eye, but he is still focused on securing an award for his teacher, who he wants to be honoured in the National Teaching Awards.
'We don't know what the future holds for Luke's eyesight but we will always be grateful to her,' his mum Emma told the paper.
Last month it was announced that Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson has agreed to become the new president of the Teaching Awards Trust.
