Nimisha’s Story

Hi! My name is Nimisha, I am 15 years old and I currently attend Ashmole School in North London. I am in my last year of secondary school and studying for my G.C.S.E exams. At the moment I am on a work experience placement at TimePlan.

One thing in particular that I enjoy about being a student in the UK is the many opportunities that schools offer like a wide variety of extra- curricular activities and clubs. Students really appreciate the time and effort teachers put in to set up and run these clubs. I feel I gain many more skills by attending clubs and it is also a great way to meet and socialise with other students in different year groups.

At Ashmole, I am part of the school orchestra, senior choir, flute group and school shows. I feel that I am a part of something at school and thoroughly enjoy taking part. All of these clubs are continuing to expand and as a result we have had some brilliant opportunities e.g. An Orchestra tour to Holland and Paris and performing at many concerts. Along with these there are also a number of homework/coursework catch-up clubs which are very beneficial for us, especially with our exams coming up.

There are hundreds of clubs outside school run by a number of different organisations that we can join. In the past I used to be a part of Barnet and Copthall swimming team, I have had lessons in Indian classical singing and also used to attend a Gujurati School. Presently I do Bollywood dance at ‘Honey’s Dance Academy’. I have taken part in many shows and performances which have all been an amazing and unforgettable experience.

Students of all ages, primary and secondary, would be willing to join various clubs of their interest. It gives us something constructive to do in our spare time and is also something to look forward to and be a part of whilst learning and achieving.

I think it is a great opportunity for teachers to come and work in the UK. It is definitely an experience you won’t forget!
