Interviewer's Notes
Roger is a confident and personable Music teacher who can teach his chosen subject to a degree level. He can also teach English and History to a GCSE level. He is equally comfortable with Key Stage 2 students. A good lesson with Roger is thoroughly planned with a clear objective in mind. The lesson must be interactive and designed to actively engage his pupils. He also likes to work to a clear scheme of work and continually assesses his and the children’s progression during class. Roger has always wanted to teach. He was inspired to enter the profession by the outstanding teachers he had as a child. He also is driven by a desire to give something back to the community.
In his last role Roger worked as a Music teacher and coordinator at a Catholic school in Bournemouth for three years. There he took on additional roles of mentoring NQTs and as a pastoral tutor for sixth form students. He also covered Humanities lessons as required. He left to pursue a PhD in Music and has worked as a peripatetic and supply teacher at a school in Bournemouth. Prior to that he worked at an all boys Grammar school in Canterbury. At his previous role Roger worked with children with mixed abilities and looked to use the music as a way to encourage and develop the children who had learning difficulties. Roger works hard to create a positive learning environment, and when entering a new class he sets clear guidelines and boundaries. Any individual poor behaviour is managed and sanctioned appropriately.
Roger is a very active musician where he volunteers his free time to play in theatres as a pianist and as an organist for church. He has also plays at occasions such as weddings. He has also spent time as a conductor for a large band. Roger immerses himself in music and particularly enjoys going to concerts with his fiancé. Whilst having Very strong and diverse subject knowledge, and a very enthusiastic personality. He has a passion for teaching and inspiring children. He prides himself on his extensive patience and works hard to build strong relationships with his students. He is clearly a very capable teacher with a passion for teaching and we recommend him to you without hesitation
