Message from a TimePlan Teacher

My name is Erin Mullen and I graduated from Acadia’s BEd Secondary Education program last year with teachables in English and Social Studies. During my last year at Acadia I joined with the TimePlan Agency and this year I find myself in Hastings, England teaching high school English at Hillcrest School.

I have had a great time thus far in England, settling in the 15^th century cottage TimePlan secured for me along with the two Australian teachers also teaching at my school. I am teaching at Hillcrest School in Hastings along the lovely South coast. The school itself comes with a fantastic and supportive staff but is not without its challenges. It is a lot of work and can be quite a challenge at times but I will most definitely come out of this a stronger, more confident teacher.

If you are at all considering taking a year or two to teach in England or Scotland the best piece of advice I can give you is this: Take the Leap. It is a huge leap of faith to fly off to another country to teach when, if you are at all like me, you are barely sure whether you are capable to teach in your own country! However, my second piece of advice is this—if you DO leap, TimePlan will be there to make sure you don’t fall on your face. I have had nothing but 100% support from the people at Timeplan. From securing my accommodations and getting me in touch with other new teachers (now life-long friends), to looking out for my overall well-being and supplying the odd drink at the pub! Teaching in another country is a huge change and you want nothing but the best to help you through that. TimePlan is there every step of the way.
