Canadian Teacher Testiomonial - Matt
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!
As you’re working through your Education degrees, I encourage you to consider moving across the pond and beginning your teaching careers here in the UK. My name is Matt, I just graduated with my B.Ed. in 2009 at UNB and have moved to Birmingham, England to kick-start my teaching career.
So…why the UK? One of the biggest attractions for me was that there is actually work available, so you can forget about sitting on a supply list for years hoping a position opens up. Secondly, it is an opportunity to live and teach internationally, but it is a country where English is the primary language, making the settlement process a bit easier.
The UK national curriculum is prescriptive, so teachers can focus on classroom management, and finding skills and techniques that work in a classroom – in other words, all the really important aspects about being a teacher that you can only learn through experience! Because the curriculum is nationally prescribed, you won’t be laboring over lesson plans every night leaving you plenty of time to explore the UK and the rest of the world, which is literally at your doorstep.
Since the school year is broken up to include more holidays, you have every opportunity imaginable to travel. The cost of living in the UK, when you start earning the pound, is very reasonable and where there is good money to be made, travelling and paying off student loans is easily done.
Registering with TimePlan can make the process immeasurably easier. From the initial interview through to securing a teaching post and finding a flat, TimePlan was available to give advice and answer questions – it’s real teachers helping real teachers. Please feel free to email me at matt.farrah@gmail.com if you ever have any questions about life and teaching in the UK.
Cheers, Matt.
