So what can you do on the island? Why not visit Amazon World Zoo Park, home to a large selection of tropical birds, animals and insects. Or there’s The Needles Pleasure Park, where you can take a chairlift down to Alum Bay sands and hop on a boat to see the famous ‘Needles’. You can visit Carisbrooke Castle near Newport where Charles 1 was once imprisoned and also explore Osbourne House, a former residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

For partygoers, the island plays host to the famous music festival in June, attracting huge crowds every year. ‘Cowes Week’ is also a popular summer event. This has played a key part in the British sporting summer calendar since 1826 and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world.
