The schools we cover

The Essex & East Anglia Office serves one of the widest reaching and diverse areas of any TimePlan Office. It covers the counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk and also the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering (the latter offering the benefits of higher pay rates, inexpensive accommodation and accessibility to the rich heritage and diversity of the capital).

The range of schools, from large inner-city to tiny rural village, is as vast and varied as the region itself. Wherever you feel comfortable, you are sure to find it here.

Things to do

The size of the area covered offers a wide range of places to visit and things to do to suit all tastes.

London - The outer London boroughs of Redbridge, Havering and Barking and Dagenham offer the best of all worlds. Central London is only a short train or tube (subway) ride away so you are always within easy reach of an amazing array of museums, galleries, theatres, clubs, bars and restaurants. See www.go-teach.com for more.

Norfolk - If you have an affinity with the sea, Norfolk might be the place for you. Here water is never very far away. Inland are the Norfolk Broads, a large area of lakes and waterways, popular for boating holidays. On the coast is the colourful seaside town of Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn, home of George Vancouver, best known for his mapping of the coast of Northwest America in 1791-95 who gave his name to the eponymous city.

Suffolk, Essex and Lincolnshire - combine coast and countryside and offer charming villages, some of the finest medieval towns in the whole country as well as picturesque seaside holiday towns and nature reserves.

Cambridge - a city steeped in history and cultural heritage, is home to one of the world’s most famous universities. It caters very much for young people and this is reflected in the vast number and variety of bars, clubs and sports facilities.

Accommodation

If you teach for TimePlan Essex & East Anglia you are guaranteed accommodation with our sister company, Accommodation Solutions. For further information see www.asl.uk.com. You will be with other TimePlan teachers from around the world enjoying a similar experience to you. Many life-long friendships are forged! We pride ourselves that this service is 'hassle-free' because your rent includes all bills, regular cleaning, gardening and a full-time member of staff dedicated to looking after you and your accommodation needs. Importantly, too, you will not be asked for a large bond when you first arrive, or to sign a long lease.

For teachers working in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham rooms are available in the borough’s purpose-built teacher-only accommodation. This is probably the least expensive of its type in London!

If you prefer to be independent, surveys show accommodation here is the least expensive in London, while you receive the same salary as Central London teachers.

Transport

Want to work hard, play hard? No where will you be far from the vast richness of Europe’s cultural heritage. Low-cost airlines fly out of three local airports, making inexpensive weekends away a reality, not a dream! Ferries sail regularly from Felixstowe and Harwich to Belgium and Holland. An excellent train system links the region to the Centre of London where Eurostar is waiting to whisk you to Europe. Peterborough and Cambridge are 60 minutes away, Barking only half an hour.

Socials

We hold three socials every month, one in each of our main locations. Good company, good food, a drink (or two) and a convivial atmosphere!

In addition, we regularly run other activities that you can join if they interest you. Examples include boating trips, ten-pin bowling evenings, a weekend in Paris, and Great Yarmouth hosts the ‘Annual Anzac Memorial Day’.

Leisure

In such a wide-ranging area there are leisure interests to suit all tastes. Because the region has such an expanse of coastline there are many water-based activities such as sailing and fishing or even punting on the River Cam in Cambridge.

For those who prefer to keep their feet on dry land, as well as the attractions of London, major Essex towns offer excellent shopping facilities as well as live music, museums, sports clubs and - of course - pubs and clubs.
