Why the Midlands?

The Midlands area is situated right in the heart of England with Birmingham dubbed England's second largest city after the capital, with just as much to offer in architecture, culture, history, museums and vibrant nightlife.

Birmingham has excellent communications and boasts a stunning array of cultural and heritage attractions, along with superb shopping, fantastic nightlife, major international events and exhibitions, and access to some of England's most beautiful countryside.

The schools we cover

The main areas that are covered by the Midlands office are Birmingham, the West Midlands, the Black Country, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and also other surrounding counties. We also have teaching opportunities in Manchester and Liverpool.

There are nearly 1200 schools in the area, ranging in size from small village schools with less than 100 pupils to large comprehensives with over 2000 pupils. With such a variety of schools and a large geographical area teachers coming to the Midlands can experience the British Education system at all levels.

Things to do

Birmingham is host to many historical sites and is even mentioned in the Domesday Book. It is steeped in history and has a wealth of historic sites to discover including Aston Hall, Soho House, Sarehole Mill and the world famous Jewellery Quarter. Today, it is an unrivalled source of nightlife, eateries, world cuisine and the award winning Canal Side.

Stratford Upon Avon is among Britain’s most beautiful and historically important places as the once residence of one William Shakespeare.

The Rock Face is Europe's premier indoor climbing and caving centre.

For sport lovers, Birmingham and surrounds offers world class opportunities to watch sport. The city itself has two premier league football teams in Birmingham City and Aston Villa and Warwickshire’s County Cricket ground, Edgbaston, regularly plays host to test cricket.

Accommodation

Living in Birmingham is less expensive than living in other cosmopolitan cities. TimePlan can provide rooms to rent in fully furnished properties from £250-300 per calendar month, or we can put you in touch with a number of letting agencies. City centre apartments are available for rent, both furnished and unfurnished from £500 and houses to let in the suburbs will cost approximately £500 per month upwards.

Socials

As a TimePlan Office we try to have at least two socials a term which we hold at our office in Holliday Street. Ellie’s now legendary Chilli is provided on most occasions (with a vegetarian option) along with beer, wine and soft drinks for a couple of hours or so!

Invariably when the beer runs out, most teachers amble up the road to the Walkabout on Broad Street – the hub of Birmingham nightlife – to continue the party.
