Founded in 1901 and has always been a Grammar school for the most able boys in the area; on north side of Bournemouth, three miles from town centre; surrounded on three sides by large copse that forms a natural playground; 33 acres of adjoining playing fields: rugby, soccer, hockey, tennis, cricket and athletics. Over-subscribed, with 2.7 applications per place. Admission at age 11 is by tests in maths, English and verbal reasoning. In 2004, average of 366 UCAS points per candidate.
